Kamala Harris courts the Latino vote | EL PAÍS USA EDITION
Dear readers, Kamala Harris is well aware of the boost that the Hispanic electorate can provide, as it proved crucial in her two campaigns as a contender for attorney general of California. According to a poll conducted last week, she has 6% more support than Biden among Latino voters. But it's not just the Democrats who are courting them. We examined Congresswoman María Elvira Salazar's changing rhetoric on immigration, which illustrates how the Republican party is walking a fine line on this hot button issue.
This week we closely followed developments in Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro is defiantly refusing to release paper ballot records to prove that he won the presidential election fair and square. Another ongoing saga is the movie-like arrest in the U.S. of one of El Chapo's sons along with El Mayo Zambada, who may or may not have been kidnapped by the former.
In other news, we attempted to decipher two mysteries: where did Argentina's gold go? And how can you pretend to hold a global summit with 1,300 world leaders in a major city, and think nobody is going to notice that it never actually happened?
We hope you enjoy this selection of stories from El País USA Edition.
