Breaking news: Israel says it killed leader of Hamas’s armed wing last month

View in browser | nytimes.com   BREAKING NEWS Israel said it had killed Mohammad Deif, the leader of Hamas's armed wing, in a strike in Gaza in July. Hamas did not confirm or deny the death. Thursday, August 1, 2024 5:07 AM ET The Israeli military said it had based its conclusion of Mr. Deif's death on an intelligence assessment. The bombardment in mid-July killed at least 90 people, according to Gazan health officials.
