The latest on Hurricanes Milton and Helene

The strategy that might decide Pennsylvania — and the election
I work remotely from Philadelphia, and it seems like every day the texts, calls, door-knocks, and election mail gets more and more intense. Living in a swing state comes with a lot of extra pressure, so anytime I can read something clarifying about what exactly is happening in my state, I'm grateful. Senior politics reporter Christian Paz published this piece about the ground game of both parties in PA, a text companion to the excellent Today, Explained podcast episode from last week.
📹 The real reason cheese is yellow
Why is a lot of cheese yellow when milk is white? When video producer Ed Vega pitched this idea a few weeks ago, I was delighted. What a fun idea! The answer takes you on a journey back to the very beginning of cheese (down to the grass cows eat) and tells a story about how bright colors have always been a marketing tool.
A quick behind-the-scenes moment for you: When we were figuring out the headline for this video I realized I'm in the minority of my coworkers: I think of cheddar cheese as *orange,* not yellow. I was persuaded (ahem, forced into submission) to believe that yellow is more accurate, but let me know if you're on my side — cheddar cheese is orange, right?
🎧 Am I less likely to get a divorce than my parents?
Our new podcast Explain it To Me answered a question I never knew I had: Millennials are less likely to get divorced than their parents. Why? Well, one reason is because today, many people have higher standards for how prepared you have to be for marriage. If we go in more prepared, we're less likely to divorce later. The podcast gets into this and much more.
