Plus, the prosecution rests in Trump's New York criminal trial.

Prosecution rests. Prosecutors rested their case against former President Donald Trump in the criminal hush money trial in New York, with Michael Cohen serving as their final witness. Analysts saw an uneven performance from Cohen, but it will ultimately be up to jurors to decide if they believe that Trump orchestrated the hush money payments and then tried to cover them up. The defense then began calling witnesses, including Robert Costello, an attorney who once advised Cohen and who had a heated exchange with the judge. Closing arguments are expected next Tuesday. | : Are you better off under Trump or Biden? | Most US voters know, and have known for a long time, who they'll support in November. Everyone else may be considering the state of their lives today under President Joe Biden compared with the years under Trump – in particular since Biden has had trouble convincing Americans the economy is strong despite inflation that makes everything more expensive. I worked with CNN's design and data visualization team to try to give people a way to assess, as objectively as possible, whether their life is better today or under Trump. It goes well beyond simple economic questions of wage growth and the price of a dozen eggs or a gallon of gas. Has the country gotten more free or less free? Is it safer? We came up with a quiz format to help people answer those questions. I enjoyed working on this project, along with CNN's Tami Luhby, Amy O'Kruk and Matt Stiles, because it forced us to consider well-being from a much wider lens than is normal in this newsletter. Take the quiz – Are you better off in 2024? – and let us know what you think of it. | |
